Going BANANAS in this time of uncertainty?   ….READ FANS FIRST.

Review by Mary Kaufmann, Business Strategy

A friend recommended the book Fans First as a ‘must read’ and it did not disappoint… Jesse Cole, co-owner of the Savannah Bananas baseball team shares his journey and proven success from taking a struggling, unknown team to sold-out crowds almost overnight. He redefined success from winning games to winning hearts—the hearts of his fans.

According to Jesse, organizations and teams who want to succeed and stand out among the competition must “change the game, break the rules, and create unforgettable experiences for their fans.” They live and breathe a fanatical focus to put their “fans first.”

I live to make a difference in people’s lives— and this book fueled me with fresh ideas and practical tips for work and in life. It’s a great reminder for all of us to be passionate and devoted to what we do. If not, then the world is missing out on our full potential. If you are looking for inspiration and you enjoy a great success story— then this book is for you.

“Whatever is normal, do the exact opposite. You can’t succeed by doing things like everyone else.”  Jesse Cole

Jesse Cole has created a work of art in the “banana yellow” covered pages of his masterpiece in Fan’s First. I can’t think of a person, team, or organization who would not benefit from reading this book. I’m a fan of Fan’s First!

What about AI?

article by Eric Coleman, Engineer

Image Generation models, mostly utilizing Diffusion based approaches, have also had a heyday in the last year. Some of the models to keep an eye on are OpenAI’s Dall-E and its variants, the open-source Stable Diffusion models, and the Discord-based Midjourney model. There’s a ton of tools and experiments that have these models at the center, using their image generation capabilities to create comics, books, and videos. There are even examples of using the models to generate music and sound by training the models on images of soundwave spectrums.

There is a lot of buzz around AI and the questions these new technologies raise. Will AI change industries, replace jobs, or take over the world? As with most things, only time will tell. But we can be sure that as these technologies continue to develop, we’ll be seeing lots of cool and exciting new uses for them. Any company that doesn’t want to be left behind should evaluate how they can fit these new tools into their work.

Over the past year, we’ve seen a lot of exciting developments in the field of generative AI. The Large Language Model approach for text generation has gained a lot of momentum and buzz. LLMs power OpenAI’s ChatGPT, and a partnership between OpenAI and Microsoft has integrated AI assistance into the Bing search engine. Meta’s release of LLaMa has become the center of some interesting open source work, largely centered around the llama.cpp repository. And Google’s Bard AI has recently become publicly accessible, fueling more experimentation in the generative text space.

Let’s make Pelotonia personal!

Meet the augustwenty team for Pelotonia 2023! Riders DJ Daugherty and David Daugherty will take on the challenge of 101 miles this year!

We asked them… ‘THEIR WHY’.

DJ responds, “On Christmas Eve of 2013, my father received the devastating news of a mass on his kidney. Just 39 days later, on January 31, 2014, my story took a sharp turn. I was a few days shy of turning 42 when I bid farewell to my father, who lost to the clutches of cancer. Never did I expect that he would not witness his five grandchildren graduate high school, walk them down the aisle on their wedding days, or reach the age of 70. My story changed. And it is because of that change that I ride Pelotonia with the fervent hope that your story will remain unaltered.”

David responds, “Pelotonia works to change the face of Cancer Research in our world.  Like most of you, my life was forever changed by the impact of cancer.  Almost ten years ago, I lost my father to kidney cancer.  Since that time, I have watched too many of my friends and family fight the battle against cancer.  Some are winning, but some are not as lucky.  Albeit small, I hope this effort of mine will make a difference.  And maybe, just maybe, the number of people who are winning the battle will begin to outweigh those who are not.”

These brothers lost their beloved father to cancer and are so passionate about finding a cure!

We are wishing them luck throughout their training and even more luck for the big day! They are officially less than a month away from the finish line, and we are so excited to cheer them on!

Amazing people supporting an amazing cause!
